ZEZA TRIO
The Zeza Trio is a collective identity as much as an ensemble — its name chosen from no language or tradition, so that soprano saxophonist Nick May, violist Jacob Clewell, and pianist Sasha Bult-Ito could simply become it. Bridging classical chamber music and modern innovation, Zeza fuses tradition with the virtuosity and wit to redefine it — creating work at once reverent and surprising. For Zeza, the classical canon is not a museum, but a living conversation of infinite possibilities through which they illuminate and share the repertoire they love.
As advocates for new and contemporary music, Zeza has established a precedent of collaborating with many of today’s internationally celebrated and emerging composers including Gary Kulesha, Christos Hatzis, Aaryn S. Ricuicci-Hill, Derek Jerkins, Stacy Garrop, and Guillaume Connesson on works for the ensemble.
With a dedication to education and community engagement, Zeza is equally
passionate about inspiring and nurturing the next generation of musicians. Through
masterclasses, workshops, and outreach initiatives, they foster a love for
music and empowering aspiring future artists at the Music Academy of Kansas
City and Kansas City Young Chamber Musicians program.
